Sem Lockdown, Day 8

"Good afternoon, team!" A chipper Tristan Kearney greeted as he started the daily call, cup of tea in hand.

Akira and Miles greeted him in their usual ways, the former saying "hello" and the latter finishing off the last sentence of his script with his back to the alphacam. This was the latest in military-grade technology, with no buffering and no lag regardless of connection strength, meaning that the others got a perfect view of Miles looking slightly anti-social until he eventually turned round.

"Hello," he said, "Where's Kain?"

They could only see Kain Douglas' legs as he darted past the screen.

"Kain," Tristan sighed, "What are you doing?"

He stopped and stuck his face up to the webcam. His tanned Roman features and untidy eyebrows slightly infringed upon his colleagues' personal space despite the the distance between them.

"I'm jogging in my room as we speak. Exercise is still important, right?"

"Well yes, but it's just..." Tristan fumbled over the right words.

"Slightly unconvential?" Akira finished.

"Yes, that."

"So what? This whole situation is unconventional. Don't blame me for making the most of it," he continued jogging.

"Can't argue with that," said Miles, subconsciously having a stretch.

"Anyway, how's everyone doing?" Kain asked.

"I'd be doing better if your audio wasn't quite so... What's the word?" Akira asked.

"Horrendous?" Tristan finished.

"Yes, that."

"Sorry, sorry, I'll stop when I speak. Does that sound better?"

"Yes," they all said in unison.

"Cool. So, is everyone ready to go live in," he checked his watch, "Three hours time?"

"You bet," Akira said, "It's nice to have everything back to normal."

"I agree," said Tristan, "Hopefully tonight's updates will be good news to everyone."

"Good evening, fellow citizens. I hope you're well and enjoying the slightly sweeter air this evening.

Our head translator has now made a full recovery from crāpulavirus and has begun communications with the Sterculians. More on that to come as I pass you over to Kain Douglas."

******

"Yes, thank you, Captain.

It turns out that the picture we sent to the Sterculian air fleet wasn't as clear as we thought. Some Sterculians decided to drop their cargo and leave, others left with their cheese still onboard, a few dropped their cheese and waited in our airspace for further instruction and the rest were so confused that they just stayed put.

I suppose this shines a light on the importance of clear communication, something we actually discussed today during our daily call.

Anyway, we are pulling as many resources as we can now to resolve the matter.

Thanks for heeding our words yesterday. Our soldiers on the ground have noticed far fewer calls to stop late night parties. Please let this continue.

As some of you will be aware, well-known clothes-designer, Jeannie Velázquez posted a video of herself having an excessive bouncing fit today and it immediately went viral. I encourage you to watch it as it is not only hilarious, but also a good demonstration of how to keep safe while experiencing that particular symptom.

Over to you, Miles."

"Good evening, Sem.

There hasn't been too much news today, health-wise. With things like pandemics though, sometimes no news is good news.

Keep staying inside and washing your hands as regularly as you can. Remember to enter your home test results on the website so we can continue to pull data and make informed decisions regarding the current state of affairs. Please continue to call in if your neighbours are listening to loud music late at night.

Stay safe and stay strong, friends. Here's Akira with the weather."

******

"Good evening to you all.

The weather remains mostly unchanged as Moon Greg keeps its new position.

Secat will be wet with a temperature of 12 degrees centigrade, there will be a few showers in Simul Santu which will have the same temperature of 12 degrees centigrade and Piscanturia will remain warm with a temperature of 19 degrees centigrade. The Poles will mostly be dry today but a snowstorm may hit in the North in the next few days.

That's all from me. Back to you, Tristan."

******

"Thanks, Akira and thank you all for your attention and co-operation. We are very grateful to see you take each new guideline and measure on so well.

Now, to play us out, a song chosen by Kain. Goodnight, people of Sem."
