Sem Lockdown, Day 19

Tristan woke up in one of the most Captain-like moods he'd ever been in. He was productive from the offset, despite the harsh conditions outside. He set to writing his script with a strong sense of, not only determination, but something that someone other than himself would probably describe as charisma. He would have described it as personability. Perhaps, those two concepts were the same. Perhaps not. The former felt like a personality trait or skill, learned by communicating with others, the latter felt like projecting the most relatable and friendly part of himself.

He still felt this way during the daily progress call he had with his teammates, conducting the conversation in an effortless and sensible manner. This was something which  Miles greatly appreciated, since he had quite a few questions to get through. He, himself, did too. He wanted to ensure his language and tone were as perfect as he perceived them to be. He gained some very useful pointers from Akira and lavished in Kain's jokes, glad to see him back to his usual self again. After the call ended, the Captain allowed himself to sit back for a second, feeling very satisfied that the support network had been worthwhile for everyone.

He looked in the mirror as he washed his hands before dinner that day and took pride in himself. Impressively, not a single strand of his light brown hair looked out of place and his freckles stuck to the skin round his nose like tiny, immovable, speckled stones. He suddenly had this feeling of being completely unshakeable, and he supposed that was how he had to be.

He liked that. He liked that very much.

"Good evening, fellow citizens.

We're almost at the three week marker for the month-long lockdown period now. The light at the end of the tunnel is within our reach, and today's briefing is going to try to keep with that theme of positivity.

Here's Kain with the daily news update."

"Good evening, planet Sem.

As the weather begins to ease in the North, a few farms are planning on getting back to business. The slight differences in conditions are still having an affect on affairs just above the equator, but we should hopefully see an end to that soon. Akira will shed more light on it later on in this evening's broadcast. Meanwhile, production goes on almost as usual, thanks to all those working extra hours in Piscanturia. Planet-wide, your efforts are very much appreciated, we are extremely grateful to you.

Additionally, analysts have announced they are now far on enough with making an accurate cross-section of Sem's population with regard to crāpulavirus to begin work on the study of the Sterculian cheese. In the first instance, it will be younger members of the workforce looking at it, since they have less experience with analysing population data. However, officials say that the 'data research programme' is a strong and vastly educational tool and all who make it through to career-level are extremely well-qualified. I can only hope they will find the cheese fit for consumption though, it wouldn't be great if it was kept stinking out our planet for months while we figured out what to do with it. I understand that some of you are struggling to see the importance of testing the cheese at the moment, but that would be my argument to you," he laughs.

"In other news, we have received a message from our neighbouring planet where this virus originated from. It is unclear what it says, but we've got our translators decoding it. It is expected to be a friendly message from the leader of Angst! Liberty! Freedom! *and booze!, mostly because it is all in lowercase and doesn't look very threatening.

That's all I have to say tonight, I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Here's Miles with the latest medical advice."

"Good evening to you all.

The negotiations are still ongoing as to whether certain areas should be released from lockdown first and what sort of strategy we take going forward. It could be a few days yet before a decision is made but, we will be broadcasting a speech from Supreme Leader, Sir Leonty Hershall when all the facts are known to us.

The opportunity to have the Supreme Leader joining us for a broadcast is an honour for the Rising Star Battalion and we very much look forward to hearing from him.

In the meantime, please continue in your vigilance as I can see you have been. There are so many trending images of people indoors, showing off their home-cooked meals, newly decorated abodes, funny skin colour changes and synchronised bouncing fits on the alphanet. We've never really taken the time to mention it before, but it is a pretty humorous virus, isn't it?

Stay safe, take care, stay out of harsh conditions if you can, and I hope to bring you some more positive news tomorrow. Over to you with the weather update, Akira."

"Thanks Miles, and good evening to you all.

As Kain briefly mentioned earlier, the snowy weather is set to ease shortly. As of tomorrow evening, Simul Santu will be almost completely clear of it, with just a few fractals of frost left behind. Secat won't be quite as lucky, but the snowfall will begin to ease off and, in two mornings' time, will be merely a light dusting which is likely to wash away in a short spell of rainy weather.

Piscanturia, on the other hand, will be perfectly warm and dry with a temperature of 20 degrees centigrade. Enjoy it while it lasts though, as a storm, named François, has begun close to the West Pole and is due to sweep its way Eastwards over the next few days. This, of course means an increased level of hail and cold conditions for those few living at the West Pole tomorrow. Milder conditions will be seen at the North and South Poles, though, with the South Pole staying that one degree warmer and the North following suit.

I understand that the weather may look bleak for some, but the new storm brewing at the West Pole isn't nearly as bad as Eleanor from the North has just been and should mostly keep to the equator, conditions should hopefully warm up after that. In the meantime, as my colleagues have said, please just stay safe.

Back to you, Captain."

"Thank you, Akira.

I don't mean to get sentimental here, Sem, but this evening's broadcast really has been my favourite so far. I hope you have all enjoyed it.

Anyhow, thank you all very much for your attention and co-operation. Tonight, we shall be played out by a song of Kain's choosing.

Goodnight, fellow citizens."
